Project Overview

As part of the “Live Streets Plan”, Knox City Council wanted to illuminate the new concrete pathways, a basketball court, outdoor gym and playground constructed at the Tormore Reserve facility so that residents can take a walk, cycle and do exercise.

When considering to adopt either grid power lighting or off-grid lighting systems, council made a budget conscious decision of electing an off-grid solar powered lighting system. They thought that this system allowed them much greater flexibility to cost-efficiently install 44 stand-alone solar powered street lights and 7 solar powered bollard lights to illuminate pathways and thoroughfares around the precinct. With effective LED chips and powered by clean solar energy, this solar lighting system not only increased safety and created a much more inviting environment. Besides, it has increased the hours of use around this facility which tied in perfectly with the Livable Streets Plan.

In total, the stand-alone solar powered lighting systems on top of 5.5m high lowerable poles illuminated the 1.2km of pathway and thoroughfares, as well as several 1.6m high LED bollards with all lighting illumination conforming to AS/NZS lighting standards.

All installation and future preventative maintenance works of the solar powered lighting system can be carried out quickly and safely at ground level without the use of any elevated work platforms because of the lowerable pole system. Additionally, the lighting systems are future-proofed by including Leadsun’s industry-leading EDGE wireless control and monitoring system. They can be accessed by adding in Gateway module and plugging in a cellular sim card.
